"Darky" 11/06/07 DA George J. "Darky" Zellem, 78, Listie, died Nov. 4, 2007, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Born May 20, 1929, in Listie, a son of Stephen and Anna (Cusher) Zellem. Preceded in death by parents, brothers, John and Michael; sisters, Mary and Stella Zellem, and Martha Pearson; granddaughter, Rebecca Gontis; and niece, Jane Marie Zellem. Survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Shirley Meager; children, Debra Kinney and Calvin Shifflett, Friedens; George Jeffrey Zellem, New Baltimore; Stephen Michael Zellem, Listie; Cathy Zellem, Listie; and Barbara Gaudlip, married to Paul, Hooversville; grand-children, Amanda (AJ) Kinney, Adam Kinney, Anthony Kinney, Justin Zellem, Sara Zellem, Sadie Zellem, Lucas Zellem, Logan Zellem, Stephen G. Zellem, Ashleigh Zellem, Wade Walker, Nash Walker and Jackson Gaudlip; great- granddaughter, Sophie Kinney; daughter-in- law, Linda Zellem. Brother of Helen Graham, married to Sherwood, Somerset; Thelma Gusbar, Listie; Janet Baker, married to Blaine, Somerset; and Patricia Ann Glodek, Everett. He is a 1947 graduate of Somerset Township High School. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, spending time as the PT instructor at Fort Indiantown Gap. George was a heavy equipment operator for Svonavec Coal Co., retiring after 30 years of service. He was also a beef, dairy and vegetable farmer for many years. Member of FOE 1801, Somerset. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed hunting and traveling to Canada, West Virginia, Listie Hunting Camp and Debraccio Hunting Camp. He also enjoyed spending time with his grand-children, and his German Shepherds. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Friedens Lutheran Church. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Edward DeVore officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Friedens Lutheran Church Community Ministry Center Fund, 131 S. Main St., Friedens, PA 15541.
