ZIEGLER Aged Shoemaker Shoots Himself John B. Ziegler, Retired Cobbler of Shanksville, Ends His Life with Shotgun John B. Ziegler, for many years a shoemaker in Shanksville and widely reputed for the excellence of his work, who lately made his home with his son, Foster Ziegler, on the highway between Shanksville and Lambertsville, went down to a shanty at a coal mine on his son's place, Tuesday afternoon, and blew off the top of his head with a shotgun. Members of his son's family heard the report and when they arrived at the scene of the tragedy found the aged man dead. Born in Shanksville, Dec. 15, 1861, John B. Ziegler spent most of his life in that town. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Miller Ziegler, living in Johnstown; and the following children: Foster Ziegler, near Shanksville; Bertha, wife of C. E. Reed, of Hamilton Terrace, Johnstown, and Ida, wife of John B. Peterson, Linden Avenue, Johnstown; also by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. S. M. McGaghey, of Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. J. T. Wilt of Somerset; Mrs. Speicher, near Buckstown; Charles Ziegler of Listie and Edward Ziegler, near Buckstown. Funeral services were held at the Foster Ziegler home at 2 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon. Ziegler's motive for ending his life is unknown. Meyersdale Republican, September 11, 1930
