David 08/21/08 Daily American C. David Zimmerman, 87, Stoystown, died Aug. 20, 2008, at Somerset Hospital. Born Sept. 30, 1920, in Quemahoning Township, son of Jacob P. and Miriam R. (Mostoller) Zimmerman. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, John and Samuel Zimmerman; sisters, Frances Zufall and Christine Koontz. Survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Joan Barnhart; sons, Philip Ryan, married to the former Donna Miller, New Florence; Joel North, married to the former Alecia Jodway, Somerset; grandchildren, Nevin, Nadia, Nicholas, Alexandra and Hunter Zimmerman; Dave was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Brother of Maxine Pierce and Ruth Pile, both of Friedens; Joy, married to Thomas M. Zimmerman, Stoystown; the Rev. Thomas H. Zimmerman and wife, Verdean, Friedens; sisters-in-law, Elaine Zimmerman, Hooversville, and Jan Zimmerman, Stoystown. A 1938 graduate of Stoystown High School. World War II Army Air Corp. first lieutenant, where he was a C-46 and C-47 pilot in China- Burma-India Theatre. Retired U.S. Postal Service rural mail carrier in Somerset. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Stoystown, where he was past Deacon and Elder, Stoystown Lions Club and recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, Stoystown American Legion, Stoystown Hunting Camp, Stoystown Area Historical Society and Forbes Area Senior Citizens. No viewing at Dave's request. Family and friends Are invited to a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Stoystown. The Rev. John Emig officiating. Interment Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Stoystown Charge U.C.C., P.O.
