Transcribed from a photocopy of the original recorded in Recorder’s Office, Somerset 
County Courthouse, Somerset, PA

Inquisition indented and taken at the dwelling house late of John B. Coleman, 
deceased, in Somerset Township, Somerset County, Pa.

On the 16th day of April A.D. 1855 Before Robert R. Marshall High Sheriff of said County, 
by virtue of a writ of Partition or valuation to him directed and to this Inquisition 
annexed by the oaths and affirmations of Jacob Frank, Philip Shaver, John Cupp, George 
Shaver, Michael Forney, Samuel Frank, Jeremiah Snyder, Epharim Snyder, Henry Franks, 
John Shaffer, Jacob Deetz, and Christian Leofler, twelve free honest and lawful men of 
his bailiwicks, who on their oaths and affirmations aforesaid respectively do say  
that on the day and year aforesaid they went to and upon the land and tenements of 
which John B. Coleman in the said writ mentioned died seized and then and there did 
find that the same lands and tenements could not be parted and divided to an among 
the children and legal representatives in the said writ mentioned without prejudice 
to or spoiling of the whole thereof.  And I therefore the Inquest aforesaid on their 
oaths and affirmations aforesaid have valued and appraised the same at and for the 
sum of Five dollars and fourteen cents per acre.

In testimony whereof as well the said Sheriff as the Inquest aforesaid have to this 
Inquisition set their hands and seals the day and year aforesaid
