December 24, 1862 Agitator Field Report of Battle of Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg, Va., Dec. 14, ‘62 We have nearly full and reliable news from only a few of our county companies in regard to the casualties in the late battle. We give below all we can learn of the fate of our soldiers, their present condition, etc. The following note was written by Capt. Carle the next day after the battle. It will be read with interest: Editor Agitator: In the terrific battle of yesterday, the casualties of Company H, were as follows: Killed: Lieut. R. M. Pratt Wounded: Serg’t. Rockwell, in foot; Wm. Wingate, right arm amputated; W. Frank Bailey, in shoulder; F. A. Foster, in neck; Jas. Moore, in thigh, left on the field and probably captured by the enemy; H. Kimball, slightly in one side. The battle is raging again this morning, though not yet so furiously as yesterday. The Reserves were badly used yesterday, and have not been called out yet today, and it is now 11 o’clock. The remnant of conpany H, (one sergeant, two corporals and eight privates), are under command of the brave and true soldier, Sergeant Husselton. The fight is becoming more general along the line and it is hard to decide the fate of the day. The rebels have infinitely the advantage in positions; and obstinately dispute our advance, which is apparently being made slowly at some points. Although I am not yet fit to take command of my company, I am upon the field, and will endeavor to gather and report all facts of interest that come under my observation. James Carle, Capt. Co.
