November 30, 1864 Saturday, Nov. 12th, Drs. I. B. Graves of Corning, N. Y., and M. L. Bacon, of Mansfield, Pa., operated on a Mrs. John Kernan at Mansfield, Pa., for ovarian dropsy, removing twenty-five quarts of fluid from the abdomen. On the following Tuesday Drs. Graves and Bacon assisted by Drs. Mills and Graves, Jr., of Corning, N. Y., removed from the same person's abdomen ten quarts more of the fluid and an ovarian tumor weighing twenty-five pounds. The operation, undoubtedly the greatest one ever performed in this section of the country was in every respect successful. Mrs. Kernan under the subsequent admirable treatment of Dr. Bacon of Mansfield is rapidly recovering.
