He was one of the earliest settlers in this county, having come into it fifty-nine years ago. He had his home till the time of his death, where his son, Palmer Shumway, now resides, in the town of Charleston. He leaves a wife at the ago of 69 years, and five children to mourn his departure. He was buried with Masonic obsequies, on Thursday, May 5, the funeral being held at the school house on Shumway hill.
