The mangled remains of John S. Mason, a brakeman employed on the Pittsburg Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad, were found by a track walker early yesterday morning, just east of the Allegheny tunnel. It is supposed that he fell off his car just as the train came out of the tunnel. The remains were brought to this city and taken to the undertaking rooms of Tipton & Lafferty, where Coroner Glenn empanelled the following jury: I. P. Lafferty, George Anderson, P. W. Beegle, I. C. Houck, J. B. Kerr and Thomas Robison. After viewing them the jury adjourned until this morning. Several witnesses were examined and the jury rendered a verdict of "accidental death," attaching no blame to the Pennsylvania Railroad. The deceased was a resident of Millmont, Union county, and was about 21 years of age. He was a member of Conductor Wesley's crew and has been employed on the Pittsburg Division for about a year, previous to that time serving in the Altoona yard. While in this city he boarded at Griest's restaurant. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Monday, January 7, 1889 1880 Lewis Township, Union County census - Bethel Mason, 57 Anna Mason, 47 Susan E.
