The following was written by Florence Gould, who was the daughter of George's brother, Michael Mihlader (b. 1866). It was transcribed by Danny Murray, great grandson of George's son, Michael Scott Mihleder (b. 1906). "Uncle George was head barber in the Union Hotel at Franklin, Pennsylvania for many years. He loved to walk and on a Sunday morning would walk 4 or 5 miles over the hills with his children. When we returned we were ready to do justice to one of Aunt Lizzie's delicious chicken dinners. One summer while I was there he hired a team of horses and a buggy with a fringe on the top to take us to Clintonville about 14 miles from Franklin. We started early in the morning but one of the horses was lazy and wouldn't pull his share. Uncle George thought it was sick so we all got out and walked up the sandy hills, even Grandpa who was over 80 at the time. We stayed overnight and we girls had fun sleeping six in a bed crosswise and everybody making the best of it. Sometimes Uncle George would take us to the top of the hill where he lived to see the oil wells working. The scenery was beautiful and we could see where the Allegheny River and French Creek flowed through Franklin and met at the foot of the hill. Uncle George married Louise Grossman. They were later divorced and he married Elizabeth Scott, born August 29, 1878." This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
