The following was written by Florence Gould, who was the granddaughter of Michael Muehleder. It was transcribed by Danny Murray, great-great-great grandson of Michael Meuhleder. "My grandfather was a factory worker and a tailor. His granddaughter, Lillie Boak, has the charcoal iron that he used for pressing in his tailor shop. He came to the United States from Germany in 1858 with his wife Catherine (Mueller) and two children, Andrew and Charles. Andrew, an infant, died aboard ship and was buried at sea. They came to Ohio and settled in Cleveland. He received his citizenship papers here on November 2, 1864. His wife Catherine died in Cleveland and he later married Elizabeth Miller of Chilicothe, Ohio. He lived to be 84 years old and was always active and keen of mind. His hobby was his yard and flowers. He liked to play cards and his favorite game was sixty-six. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Independent Order of Odd-Fellows, I.O.O.F. Each summer he took a trip to Franklin, Pennsylvania to see his two sons and to St. Johns and Maple Rapids, Michigan to visit his two daughters. He went to Pennsylvania by boat from Detroit to Cleveland, and was usually accompanied by his granddaughters, Florence and Lillian Mihlader. We always looked forward to these trips with Grandpa. In Pennsylvania he would climb the many steps to Uncle Charlie's house or up the hill to Uncle George's, with his "horse" as he always called his cane. He was very active and a good companion even after his 80th year. He talked broken English and tried to teach the children to talk to him in German. Grandpa had a hernia operation at the age of 83. The nurses at the hospital all called him Santa Claus as he had a beautiful long white beard. They all loved him and said he was a wonderful patient."
