The Glas family traveled to Venango county where there was a German colony and Church. Andrew was a farmer. Augustus and his younger brother Frederick volunteered with the 121st Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers Co. F in September 1862. The 121st was in most all the major battles to include Gettysburg. In 1864 Augustus became Corporal and was assigned to the Sharpshooter battalion. The brothers were both present at Appomatox, VA for the surrender by Gen. Robert E. Lee. The regiment marched to Washington, D.C. where they took part in the Grand Review of the Armies of the United States on 23 May 1865. The regiment was mustered out on 2 June 1865. The two brothers along with an even younger brother, Robert, who was in the 125th Pennsylvania Infantry, all returned home to Pinegrove Township, Venango county and took up where they had left off - farmers. Fred was quite active in the GAR. Robert died in an accident when he was 37. This was in the Bradford oil field. Augustus died in 1907 of paralysis.
