The Somerset Herald: (Somerset, Pa.) February 17, 1875
The famous city of Pithole, Pa., has been finally cut off from the outer world by
the discontinuance of service on the Pithole and Oleopolis railroad. One mail now
reaches the forlorn place, and when communication is resumed it will probably be by
aid of pack-horses.
