Bernice Stearns was born in Sugargrove township, Nov. 11, 1883, and died of typhoid fever at the home of her sister, Mrs. R. A. Head, Youngsville, Pa., March 12, 1905, aged 21 years, 4 months and 1 day. Bernice had been ailing for sometime, but when questioned by her loved ones she always replied in her usual cheerful manner, "I'm all right. Don't worry about me." She was under the physician's care for about three weeks, but was considered in no immediate danger until about an hour before death came, which was a great shock to her loved ones. She passed from this world without a struggle, her face wreathed in smiles. She leaves a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Stearns, two sisters, Mrs. Katie Head and Miss Cora Stearns, two brothers, Messrs. George Stearns and Will Stearns and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. Bernice will be greatly missed among the older people and children as well as the young people who will forever remember her smiling face and pleasant words, but no place will she be missed as by her loved ones in her own home. She was brought to her home on Brown Hill Tuesday afternoon where kind friends had everything in readiness to receive the loved one whom they had known from childhood. The funeral was held from the United Brethren church at Chandelers Valley, Pa., Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Burns of Youngsville, Pa., officiating. The large attendance and the beautiful floral offerings showed the high esteem in which Bernice was held by her many friends. She was borne to her last resting place in the Wesleyan cemetery by her friends: Messrs. Wilbur Weaver, Louie wiedholt, Worhy Olds, Dennie Sullivan, Ivan Anderson and Ephram Carlson. Those in attendance from a distance were: Messrs. George and Joh Stearns, Staples, Can.; J. W. Stearns and son Julian Mrs. Annette Sweet and son Fred, Buffalo, N.Y.; Mrs. E. A. Sturdevant and sons Clyde and Lynn, Jamestown, N.Y.; Joshua Brown, Dewittville, N.Y.; Mortimer Putman, Frewsburg, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Brown and daughter May, Grandvalley, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Stearns and family wish to thank the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted them during the illness and after the death of their beloved daughter and sister, Bernice; also for the beautiful floral offerings which the kind friends brought. Additional Comments: This was taken from a newspaper clipping found in the Bible of her sister Cora. It was probably taken from a newspaper in Warren, PA or Jamestown, NY.
