J. WHEELER Lifelong Resident Passes Away - Grange will attend Funeral. Lander, Jan. 21 (1917) - Joseph J. Wheeler passed away at his home on Saturday morning at 2 o'clock, aged 83 years. His last public appearance was at election last November, where at the polls during the day as assessor he passed out the statements, but since that time had been out very little. Besides the daughter, Mrs. Ella M. Strong, with whom he had lived since the death of his wife, June 24, 1889, he is survived by a son, Clyde C. Wheeler of Buffalo, one sister, Mrs. Johanna Chase of South Dakota and five grandchildren. Mr. Wheeler was born at Camden, N.Y., September 18, 1833 and was brought here by his parents when five weeks old and had spent his entire life here. December 25, 1861he was married to Miss Maria P. Johnson. As a young man he taught school and for fifty-eight years was a successful veterinarian and had helped many people out of trouble. he had served as assessor of Farmington township for 31 years, was a district deputy of granges eight years and was master of Farmington Grange six years also a member of the fire insurance board for sixteen years. About fifty years ago mr. Wheeler united with the Congregational Church of this place and as a younger man was earnest and active in Sunday school work and was a man of strict integrity. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. C. H. Quick on Tuesday at 11 o'clock am from the home with interment at State Road Cemetery. The Grange will attend in a body.
