In 1790 two missionaries of the Associate Presbytery of Pennsylvania--Rev. Archibald White and Rev. John Anderson --were sent to Western Pennsylvania to organize a congregation. On a ridge between King's Creek and Harmon Creek, they organized Harmon Creek Associate Church. The church was later called King's Creek Church. At first the congregation worshipped in a tent and later erected a log building. The church relocated twice before constructing a brick building in 1836. The church building caught fire and burned to the ground in 1876. The congregation changed their name to Frankfort Springs United Presbyterian Church in 1888. The building at the north end of town (and the one still used) was the original Frankfort Springs UP church so that has the UP cemetery behind it. In 1968 the United Presbytrian and Presbyterian churches merged and for a while the congregation worshiped for the summer months at the brick (Frankfort Springs UP) building and the winter months at the Frankfort Presbyterian frame church at the middle of town. Church members even hauled the electronic organ back and forth! Ultimately the decision was made to keep the brick building (UP) at the north end of town because it had a basement. It also has a center aisle which was a nice benefit. In 1977, the frontage was sold and the church was torn down, but the cemetery still is owned by the church. The data is from 1936 so the burial records may not be complete. LAST NAME FIRST NAME BORN DIED AGE NOTES Anderson J.B.
