William Rowley of Cecil Twp, Washington Co PA
to Robert Smith of York Co

     Know all men by these present that I William Rowley of Cecil Township
County of Washington and State of Pennsylvania for and in consideration of
the sum of Tree Pound lawfull money of ye State aforesaid in hand paid by
Robert Smith of County of York the recpt whereof I do hereby acknowledge hath
granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant buy and sell to him
the aforesaid Robert Smith.
     All my right title claim interest and demand of in and to a warrant or
order of survey There hundred acres of land including an improvement on the
waters of Cross Creek adjoining land of Samuel Marshal and others which order
of survey was granted in ye land office the ninth of May one thousand seven
hundred and eighty five which warrant or order of survey with the purchase
money already paid onto the land office I do warrant to ad Smith his heirs
and assigns forever from me my heirs or assigns subject nevertheless to the
interest due or become due
     In testimony whereof I have in these presents interchangeably set my
hand and fixt my seal this the 5th day of April 1787.

     Before me ye subscriber one of the Commonwealths Justices personally
came before me William Rowley and acknowledged the above conveyance to be his
act and deed and desires the same may be recorded as such and Acknowledged
before me this 13 day of Aplie 1787.

the court house in Washington PA.

NOTES:  William Rowley was born in England in 1747, supposedly the son of an
English lord.    He came to America c. 1784 and eventually settled in Cecil
Twp where he lived for a time with his wife Sophia Lesnett.  Sophia was a
daughter of Christian Lesnett who came from Germany in 1752 and landed first
at Baltimore MD and after a series of moves came to (South) Fayette Twp c.
1770.  Frederick Lisnett, one of the witnesses to this document, was the
oldest son of Christian.  The family of Peter Hickman is also related to the
Lesnetts.
