Brown buwbrown@concast.net July 19, 2008, 7:59 am Letter from National Education Bureau, Harrisburg, to Reform School of Western Pennsylvania, Morganza, Pa.: I desire to call your attention to the application of Miss Mary J. Gray, Harrisburg, who desires to secure an appointment in your institution and who is a first-class young woman for such a position. She is 30 years of age, five feet, six inches tall, and weighs about 150 pounds. She is a state normal school graduate and has had ten years experience in teaching, in ungraded schools in Perry County. Last summer a year ago she accepted a vacation appointment in the Insane Asylum, located in this city, and as the work was more remunerative than her teaching, owing to the continuous employment, she has remained in the employment of the asylum ever since. She is therefore acquainted with institutional work and has a preference for Reformatory work rather than the kind of work that she is engaged in at present. She is strong and robust, well-balanced, mentally and socially, and is a first-class disciplinarian. (signed) Robert L. Myers) Additional Comments: Printed business stationery: National Educational Bureau (Robert L. Myers), Cor. Front and Market Streets, Harrisburg, Pa. Established 1884. Handwritten note at bottom of page addressed to Mr. J.A. Quay, the Superintendent of the institution, from E.H.R., the lady evidently in charge of the girls at the reform school: Mr. Quay, I think Miss Gray would or could fill the vacancy here finely.
