The following information is for my ancestor JOHN ATCHESON, and as extracted from his pension records file, and subsequent widow's pension records, for his Union service during the Civil War. Name: JOHN ATCHESON Born: May 9, 1839 in Allegheny County, PA; Died: April 28, 1909 at Arona, Westmoreland Co., PA Enlistment: Monongahela City on the 19th day of September, 1862, as a private in Company 'D' 22nd Regiment Pennsylvania Cavalry; for term of 3 years; transferred to company 'E' of the 22nd PA Cavalry. Discharge: Honorably on 19th day of July 1865 at New Creek, W. Virginia. Physical Description At Time Of Enlistment: 5'9" tall, medium complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and occupation listed as laborer. Wife's Name: ELIZA (LIDY) RIDDLE ATCHESON Marriage: at Columbia, Washington county, PA on January 1, 1867 by the Rev. R. R. Sutton; neither previously having been married, hence no impediment to the marriage. Marriage Witnessed by: DAVID RIDDLE and MARTHA BOYD RIDDLE. [In 1909 these marriage witnesses are again used as legal witness for LIDY ATCHESON for the pension request.
