Campbell, 75, of Washington, passed away early Thursday morning, July 27, 2023, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born February 13, 1948, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Victor Campbell and Elizabeth Virginia Sandreth Campbell Kosarik. Richard was a 1966 graduate of Avella High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during Vietnam with the rank of Aviation Boatswain's Mate, honorably discharged in 1970. He was a laborer for Washington Steel for 10 years and retired from Pennsylvania Transformer June 3, 2022, after more than 20 years of employment. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting and more recently he liked to go to the casino and play the slot machines. Richard was an avid sports fan, never missing a chance to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He loved going to the beach and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. On October 10, 1970, he married Kathy Sue Appleby, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 52 years, are his three children, Debbie (Mark) Cole of Washington, Kelly (Rodney) Smith of Aliquippa, and Richard (Donna) Campbell of Washington; along with nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his siblings, Lillian (Warren) Zimmerman of Washington, and Robert James (Sandy) Campbell of Avella; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Harry "Billy" Campbell; infant twin brothers, Leonard and Leroy Campbell; and his stepfather, Martin Kosarik. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 30, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 31, with the Rev. Paul Walker officiating. Burial will be in West Point Cemetery, Avella.
