Cardin cliftondcardin@juno.com May 27, 2010, 7:54 am Republican Compiler, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Washington Pa May 22 - Suicide - On Wednesday evening last the body of Mr. Paul Duncle, of Hopewell township, two miles from West Middleton, in this county, was found suspended by a halter chain to the limb of a wild cherry tree, in a thicket, on his farm within 150 yards of his house. He left home on Monday evening, and was found on Wednesday evening by his children, hanging by the neck dead, dead - an inquest was held on the body on Thursday - the jury reported that he had voluntarily made way with himself - he was interred the same day. When he was found hanging his knees were within 2 inches of the surface of the ground. The events leading to this unfortunate act are not precisely known, but it is said that he had a short time previous transferred his property which he could not recover again. He was but little embarrassed. The deceased was probably about 40 years of age; for some years past he has too often indulged himself in drinking to excess, but for 2 days previous to his voluntary death he was remarkably serious and had drank but little. He has left a wife and several children to lament his wretched end. (Reporter) This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
