(Pittsburgh, Pa.) 1860-1898: July 15, 1863 Died June 28th, 1863, William F. Patten, aged 23 years, lacking 10 days; son of Robert and Eliza Patten, of Union Township, Washington County, Pa., and grandson of the late Rev. Samuel Ralston, DD. He was among the first to respond to the call of his country. Before he enlisted he was laboring under deep concern for the salvation of his soul. He was in active service for eighteen months. He was in several battles, and acquitted himself manfully. He crossed the river at the first battle of Fredericksburg with his company. He was not, however, fit for duty, and consequently had to return. He was never fit for duty afterwards. His father got his discharge in February. He had, however, contracted a disease which settled on his lungs and he gradually sunk under its fatal power...
