(Pittsburgh, Pa.): July 20, 1864 Died at his residence in Washington, Pa., June 19th, John Wishart, M. D., in the 84th year of his age. The subject of this notice was a son of Doctor David Wishart and Janet Belch, of Thornhill Parish, Perthshire, Scotland. On the day after his birth he was borne by his father and nurse to a Chapel of Ease, and baptized by the Rev. Patrick Caldwell… His maternal grandfather, having emigrated to America with his family, his father was induced to follow, and set sail for New York, July 1st, 1796, and landed in September following. After a temporary sojourn at or near Hagerstown, Md., the father of the deceased settled upon lands, which he had purchased in Huntingdon County, Pa., and afterwards removed to Bedford County, where he, at once cultivated a farm and performed the duties of an extensive medical practice. Here, too, the son both worked upon the farm and was a student of medicine, until the Autumn of 1806, when he entered the Medical University at Philadelphia. After a full course in that renowned Institution, he received his diploma, in a class of sixty, in the Spring of 1808. In the summer of the same year he settled in Washington, where he passed the balance of his long and useful life… His first marriage was in 1809, with Mary, daughter of Robert Tate, of Bedford County. His second was with Martha, daughter of the late John Wilson, Esq., of Washington, who survives him. He leaves ten children, five of each marriage, to pay the tribute of tears to his memory...
