The Speer Spring Congregation of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church was organized in 1830. The first church was a small brick structure erected in near the bank of Chartiers Creek where the Speer Spring Cemetery still sits. The Speer Spring Cemetery was located next to the Church on a parcel of land from the Speer farm. The cemetery is no longer associated with a church and care of the cemetery has passed through many hands and organizations. There are a number of graves noted by the DAR that have flag holders showing veteran status but the graves are unmarked. There were also a number of tombstones that were down or unreadable. According to data on the USGenWeb Archives, the cemetery holds the remains of veterans, former slaves, victims of the Morgan Opera House tragedy and local mine disasters. This data was collected by the DAR and found in the genealogy section of the Citizen's Library, Washington PA. The data is from 1937 so the burial records are not complete.
