We encourage links to the state and county table of contents. ____________________________________________________________ The last will and testament of William Caldwell, of Peters Township, Washington County and State of Pennsylvania in the name of God I William Caldwell, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound mind and memory (Blessed be almighty God for the same) do make and publish this my last will and testament, in the manner and form following (that is to say) After my just debts, and funeral expences are paid of, and fully discharged, First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Jane Caldwell, the one third of the proffits of my Farm, with all my household furniture and kitchen utensils, and her choice of two rooms in my House, one downstairs, the other up, and what use she wants with the kitchen during her life, I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret one hundred and eighty dollars, I give and bequeath to my sons, John, Robert, William, & Joseph Caldwell the sum of thirty dollars each, as I have given them nearly what I alowed them heretofore, I bequeath to my daughters Ann, Jane, Elisabeth & Mary the sum of thirty dollars each, as I have given them nearly what I allowed them heretofore, I bequeath to my daughter Nancy, the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars, after these bequeathments in money are all paid of, I allow the ballence of my money to be put to Interest for the use of Nancy, so long as she remains incapable of making a living, If she comes to her health again I allow this money that is at interest, to be divided equally amongst all my children, I give and bequeath to my Son Joseph Caldwell, the Farm I now live on, with a lot of land I purchased from my son Robert Caldwell adjoining Centre Meeting House ground, to him his heirs and assigns forever, I bequeath to my sons Robert & Joseph Caldwell, all my moveable property that is not bequeathed in the above, I apoint my Soninlaw Edward Wright, guardian for my daughter Nancy so long as she is incapable of taking care of herself. I hereby apoint my sons John, & Robert Caldwell sole executors, of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made, in witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this tenth day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six. In the presence of us William Caldwell {Seal} Ebenezer Archer James Matthews Jr. Washington County SS: Be is remembered that on the 30th day of March A.D. 1855 Before me John Meloy Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for said county came Ebenezer Archer & James Matthews the subscribing witnesses to the will of William Caldwell Decd. who after being duly qualified according to law depose and say that they heard the testator publish pronounce and declare the foregoing instrument as and for his last will and testament and at his request and in his presence they subscribed their names as witnesses to this same will and the time thereof the testator was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding to the bestof their knowledge observation & belief Ebenezer Archer James Matthews And sworn to & subscribed before me John Meloy Reg. _____________________________________ Marion Township Lee County Iowa Whereas the undersigned has been appointed one of the Executors of the Estate of William Caldwell Senr. late of Peters Township Washington County Penna Deceased this is to inform the Register of the county aforesaid or any other person whom it may concern that I decline the appointment and wish that my brother Robert Caldwell the other Executor should settle the estate. Witness my hand this 14th April 1855 John Caldwell ________________________________________ To the Register of Washington County Pa Dear Sir I was apointed one of the Executors in connection with my Brother Robert Caldwell of the Estate of my father William Caldwell deceased I therefore decline acting as said Executor and wishes the said Robert Caldwell to settle said estate January the 14th 1857 John Caldwell Lee County Iowa ____________________________________ March 30th 1855 Letters Testamentary with Copy of will &c issued to Robert Caldwell, who on same day was duly sworn, the other Exor. within named being absent from the state & residing in Iowa.
