All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Muriel Sonne cgsonne@comcast.net May 18, 2011, 6:16 pm Source: Washington Co., Pa Will Book 2, P. 434; Fhl#863624 Written: August 4, 1812 Recorded: August 27, 1813 Washington County Willbook 2, p. 434 Will of Robert Jackman deceased In the name of God Amen I Robert Jackman of the Township of Pikerun County of Washington and State of Pennsylvania being of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God Calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of allminghty God that gave it my body I recommend to the earth to be buryed in decent christian buryal at the discretion of my Executors And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. Item I will and bequeath to my daughter Sarah the sum of five hundred dollars to be paid to her in the following manner that is one hundred at the expiration of twelve months after my decease and two hundred a year until the sum of five hundred dollars shall be fully paid Item I will and bequeath to my daughter Ruth the sum of four dollars Item I will and bequeath to my son Robert the tract of land I purchased of Philip Gilleland likewise Pikerun or the whole chanel thereof so far as said creek runs through my land also all my land on the north side of Pikerun called the Mill place with the grist mill thereon with the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining except the new sawmill I am now about to build with the priveledge of the watter bancks for the dam bed of the creek for the watter to flow on so far not to obstruct the grist mill ground to dig the head race though ground to set the Sawmill on one fourth acre for log yard at the old seat improv’d by Samuel Dixon & myself likewise ground for the mill race from sd mill into the creek also one acre of ground between the house George Harris now lives in and the point formed by Pikerun and the river also the priviledge to bring saw loggs up the creek to sd mill or take rafts out. Item I will and bequeath to my son Dixon the plantation or tract of land I purchased of Joseph Brown and as much land off my home farm by a line running the length of my home tract adjoining Browns as will make one hundred acres and the whole of the reserves as above reserved off the mill tract. Item I will and bequeath the remainder of my home farm to my sons William and James to be divided equal in quantity of acres by a line beginning at the river and running strait until it intersects the line that shall be run for the addition to Browns place and further it is my will that William shall have the lot or part adjoining Caleb Johnson and James the part including the mansion house Item I will and enjoin that my son Robert pay the above mentioned legasees to my daughters Sarah and Ruth as bequeathed to them Item I will and bequeath all my land in the State of Ohio to Henry Samuel & John to be divided in the following manner beginning at the line between White and me and running up hill thence with meanders of the brow of the hill by the house built by Robert Hill to the brake of hazel run thence up the meanders thereof so far as a direct line to Michael Sowders land as will include two hundred acres of Section No eleven Township No six and Range the 1st to include the house and improvement Henry made to be for my son Henry and further it is my will that the residue of said section be divided in two equal parts in value by my sons Samuel and John by running a line from Henry’s part to Callums line and the one to whom the refused part may fall to by lot or otherwise shall have the mill seat I purchased of my son Robert at the fork and on the west Branch of Little Beaver with the watter and land necessary for the erection of a dam and race also two acres of ground where the mill may stand Item I will that my slaves during life to wit Charles Cass and Rachel be manumitted and freed at my decease the said Charles & Cass having had their liberty this eighteen years past. Item I will that all my legal debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my personal estate Item I will that the remainder of my personal property be sold by my Executors and the money arising from said sale to be equally divided between my following named children to wit to Henry Samuel William Dixon John & James part and part alike And lastly I do nominate constitute and appoint my sons William Dixon or John or either of them my sole Executors of this my last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve The land above bequeathed to Henry to be to him during his natural life and if his wife should survive him to her during the time she shall remain his widow provided he have no lawful child or children then to revert to my sons Robert his X mark Jackman. (seal) Signed sealed and declared by the said Robert Jackman in presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto set our names Caleb Johnson Amos Ailes Simon Johnson Washington County ss Be it remembered that on the twenty seventh day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen, before me Isaac Kerr, Register for the probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration, in and of said County, came Caleb Johnson Esquire, Amos Ailes and Simon Johnson, the subscribing witnesses to the within last Will and Testament of Robert Jackman, late of the county aforesaid , deceased, who being duly affirmed say that they were personally present, and did see the Testator therein named, sign this Will and did hear him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament; That at the time of his so doing , he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, and that they respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this will in the presence and at the request of the Testator and in the presence of each other.
