Pleasant Township United Post Office, Penna. Fisher Farm History of Fisher Cemetery George Dallas Albert, page 535 of his history of Mount Pleasant township, Westmoreland County, lists Adam Fisher as a resident having no land in the township in the year 1783. The 1790 Census lists Adam Fisher as a Free White Male of sixteen years and upwards, a resident of Bedford County, Pennsylvania, having three sons under sixteen years of age, a wife and two daughters. George Dallas Albert, page 534 of his History of Mt. Pleasant Township, gives the following account of the Area of Mount Pleasant Township. “ The Township of Mount Pleasant was the designation of one of the Townships of Western Pennsylvania while yet the whole of the Province west of the eastern line of Somerset County was included in Bedford County. Its boundaries at that time, however, did not coincide with those by which it was distinguished at the organization of Westmoreland. The old tax-rolls of Bedford County showed that Mount Pleasant contained 83 land-holders, 13 tenants, of whom not one was married. The Township took in a large and scarce definable region around the town now of that name. When the County of Westmoreland was erected in 1773, the limits of the township were of great extent.” Adam Fisher died February 8, 1821, and no doubt owned the farm on which the plot of ground was set aside for a private cemetery, as was the custom in those times. This Private Cemetery is still used by the Fisher Family and their descendants for burial af their dead in 1946. It is kept in excellent condition, and the several farms in the vicinity of the cemetery are still owned by some of the Fisher families. A. Pomeroy in his Atlas of Westmoreland County, published in 1867 from actual surveys under the direction of S. N. & D. G. Beers, shows the following of the Fisher families owning the various farms: - Mrs Fisher; J.A. Fisher; George Fisher; Wm. Fisher, and J. G. Fisher. The old tombstone of Adam Fisher bears the following inscription on a bronze plate, together with a bronze D.A.R. Insignia, placed by his descendants through the auspices of the Phoebe Bayard Chapter, Greensburg, Pa., “Lieut. Adam Fisher, Sr. 6th Co. Lancaster Co. Militia B. 1732; D. 1821.” Also a Revolutionary War Veteran marker & flag. All inscriptions on the tombstones erected in the Fisher Private Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County, were copied September 2d, 1946, by Members of Braddock Trail Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution.
