They took up land a little north of the Glades Road, bisected by Braddock's Road. John received land that eventually became part of Huntingdon Township when Westmoreland County was formed. William took the tract to the east that became Mt. Pleasant Township. In 1786 William Neel received a patent for land called "Mt. Joy", paying 14 pounds, 10 shillings and 4 pence for 208 acres. Upon his death the land passed to his son, and from him to his grandnephew, James Neel. In 1865 Five acres were sold to the newly formed Mount Pleasant Cemetery Corporation. In 1867 the cemetery land was cleared. Gradually, more land was added. In 1910 there were 18 acres, in 1978 this had grown to 50 acres.
