It is built in nearly the center of Cook Township, East and West, and on ground originally owned by Leonard Stahl, from whom it took its name. It is situated on the “Old Felgar Road”, running from Somerset to Greensburg, and became a village in the days of the Road Wagons. It lies in the line which divides Cook from Donegal Township. The road from Donegal, down the Valley to Ligonier, crosses through the place, about four miles from Donegal and ten miles from Ligonier. Enos King built the first house in the village, which is built of stone, and in good condition in the year 1947. There are two Methodist Churches, the Methodist Protestant, and the Methodist Episcopal, which, although a part and parcel of the village, are really located within the limits of Donegal Township. Between the two churches, in a beautiful little Cemetery, sleep many of the prominent men and women and their descendants, who settled in the vicinity of this little village during the War of the Revolution, Philip Freeman, a soldier of the Revolution, and his wife, rest beneath the sod at this spot. Presentation of Stahlstown Cemetery Records Braddock Trail Chapter Members, Daughters of the American Revolution, Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, assembled in this Cemetery July 12, 1947, and copied each and every inscription from the tombstones erected, some not being entirely legible. The Cemetery is under perpetual care, and is being used frequently to bury the descendants of those who established this sacred plot many years ago. The inscriptions have been typed by Miss Almetta Pearl Gay, and proof-read by Miss Gay and her mother, #273 East Crawford Avenue, Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Inscriptions copied, July 12, 1947 ALL ROWS BEGINNING AT THE RIGHT OF ENTRANCE TO THE CEMETERY, KNOWN AS THE SOUTH SIDE OF CEMETERY Row #1 Inside of fence. #1 HOOD Mary L 1903 - 1904 #2 HOOD Thomas 1905 - 1905 #3 HOOD Infant 1912 #4 HOOD Sankey W 1877 - 1929 : Amy I 1879 - 1946 #5 HOOD Catharine Hood, Born Mar 3, 1828 - Died Aug 23, 1878 #6 HOOD Large Monument HOOD On one side Louis A Hood Died - no date; John Hood Died Nov 14, 1882, Aged 80 Yrs 2 Mos 11 dys #7 HOOD Elizabeth Hood #8 HOOD Large monument; William 1835 - 1917 : Mary Ann 1839 - 1917 #9 HOOD Infant Daul of W. and M.
