Brown buwbrown@concast.net July 22, 2008, 7:38 am Letter from Mrs. C.H.B. to Mr. Quay (Supt. of the Pennsylvania Reform School at Morganza): I now write you a few lines to let you know why I think that it was a false report that Griffith made against Jennie. She never was away from home only 3 or 4 times I sent her to the store and office. She was always back in time to get my dinner for me on time. One day she was at manor for her clothes. She was back till 5 o'clock and then she went to work on the 1st of May, Her and the lady fell out about putting butter on the wrong plate. Jennie went to Mrs. Meyerses and stayed all night on Friday. She helped Mrs. Myers to do her work on Saturday and came home between 2 and 3 o'clock so I do not think you got a true statement not by any means. When the man came to take her away she was getting ready to go to church and that is something Doc Griffith does not do for they do not keep no Sunday or anything else. They are fair heathens. Doc told me on Thursday after she came home to send her to Butler County or some other place clear out of Westmoreland Co. where no person knew her. I do not think that she is any worse disgrace than his children. Maybe he now says it is such a disgrace for her to be up there. Once you know D.G. as well as I do you will not think so much of his reports. Additional Comments: Note on reverse written by E.H.B. (the matron of the girls section of the Houe of Refuge): Mr. Quay. Jennie Baughman is a good girl here. She insists that she committed no offense. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
