During World War One, he served in every campaign that the 110th participated in to include the Defensive Sector, Aisne-Marne/Aisne/Champagne-Marne/and finally the Meuse Arrgonne were he was wounded on 30 Sep 1918. Shot in both legs the World War One veteran came back to the states where he was hospitalized in Carlisle Pennsylvania. He was discharged from the army in April of 1919 and returned home to Greensburg Pennsylvania. He was married to Cora Marie Wilkinson in Aug of 1919.
