August 23, 1876 James Twigger, a lad of nine years, was struck by lightning and instantly killed at Irwin Station, Westmoreland Co., shortly after five o’clock Friday evening. In company with two young companions, he was playing on the Pennsylvania Railroad track directly opposite the Irwin Foundry when the electric fluid descended, striking him and his companions. Young Twigger was instantly killed by the bolt and the other two lads were rendered insensible but will recover. The lads parents reside at Irwin.
