Latrobe Bulletin (Latrobe, Pennsylvania) 9 Oct 1986
George R. Bates, 79, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1986, in Latrobe Area
Hospital. He was born July 7, 1907, in Latrobe, son of the late Edward and Ella
McCurdy Bates. Before retirement, he was employed for 25 years as a mason by Dill
Construction, Co. of Latrobe. He was a member of Bricklayers Union Local 75 of
Greensburg. He was preceded in death by one son, George E; one daughter, Nancy Jane;
three brothers and one sister. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Bishop Bates; two
sons, David L., of Monroeville and Glen B. of Latrobe; four grandchildren; one
brother, Richard, of Latrobe, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Ashbaugh, of Latrobe.
Services will be held at 11 am Friday in the funeral home
with the Rev. Charles Carl officiating. Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley
Cemetery, Ligonier Township.
