Mrs. George R. Bates, 83, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 1996, in Latrobe Area
Hospital. She was born May 12, 1913, in Ligonier, a daughter of the late Thomas and
Kiziah (Scott) Bishop. She was a member of the First Church of God in Latrobe and
was a retired employee of Latrobe Plastics Co. She was a member of the International
Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge 52, Pittsburgh. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Bates; a son,
George E. Bates; a daughter, Nancy Jane Bates; four brothers, John, Thomas, Charles
and Edward Bishop and three sisters; Keziah
Hutchison, Flossie Austin and Nettie Baer. She is survived by two sons, David L.
Bates of Monroeville and Glen B. Bates of Latrobe; four granddaughters and a number
of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday with the Rev. Mark
Yarger officiating. Interment will be in Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
