Mrs. Emma M. Bates, 62, of 327 Main St., Youngstown, died Wednesday evening in
Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born in New Alexandria July 7, 1917, a daughter
of the late Charles and Alice Marron Shanafelter. She was a member of Sacred
Heart Church, Youngstown, and the Rosary Altar Society. She is survived by her
husband, Richard D.; three sons, Richard D. Jr. of Youngstown, Donald T. of
Greensburg and Marron Charles of Latrobe; four sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Alice)
Janoscrat. Mrs. August (Mabel) Hirko and Mrs. Daniel (Margaret) Speil, all of
New Alexandria, and Mrs. Louis (Marie) Bozelli of Derry: one brother, Charles
Shanafelter of Pleasant Unity, and four grandchildren. The family will receive
friends in M.S. Hartman Funeral Home, Latrobe. from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 3
to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m.
Saturday in Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. J. Aelred Beck, O.S.B.,
officiating. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery. The Rosary Altar
Society of Sacred Heart Church will meet in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Friday to
recite the rosary.
