Mr. Bitner, 84, was born Aug. 22, 1893, in Seward, the son of the late Charles and Mary Penrod Bitner. A veteran of World War I, serving as a colonel in the US Air Force, Mr Bitner was a life member and past commander of the American Legion Post 515, Latrobe, a member and conductor of the 40&8, member of the World War I Loyalhanna Barracks, and was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves. Mr. Bitner owned and operated two automobile dealerships in Latrobe - Studebaker and Fiat - for over 50 years. He was an avid fisherman, belonging to the Seven Springs Fishing Club and assisted in its management. He also was a member of the Latrobe BPOE Elks Lodge No. 907. Surviving are two sisters: Marion J. Bitner and Mrs. Helen B. Parker, with whom he made his home. Family will receive friends at the M. S. Hartman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 11 am Thursday with the Rev. Donald McCoid officiating. Interment will follow in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
