Black, 63, former resident of Derry, died Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in McKeesport Hospital following an operation. His wife, Mrs. Emma Louise Black, preceded him in death. Since 1949 he had made his home with a son, Louis, 312 Washington Ave., East McKeesport. Born in Leavenworth, Kan., Jan. 2, 1893, he was an employe of the McKeesport Connecting Railroad. He was also a veteran of World War I, having served overseas with the 13th Company, 4th Battalion, 153rd Depot Brigade. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers. Surviving are the following children: Louis H., with whom be made his home; Walter, Jr., McKeesport; Mrs. Daniel (Gladys Louise) Melchiorre, Cedarville, N. J.; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Two brothers, Harry, Marion Center, and Charles, California, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Hooper, Leavenworth, Kan., also survive. Friends will be received at the Fisher Funeral Home, Derry, until Monday morning when services will be held there at 10:30 with the Rev. William O. Bradley officiating. Interment will be in Coles Cemetery.
