Lewis Brindle. one of Latrobe's best known and most substantial citizens, died at 4 o'clock, this morning, at his residence, No. 214 Walnut street. He was in his 76th year at the time of his death. Though he had been in failing health for some time the death of Mr. Brindle came unexpectedly. He had attended services in the Christ Reformed church last Sunday, and had been about as usual yesterday. Last night came the first warning that his condition was not as good as it had been. Before retiring he complained of feeling ill, but it was thought that it might be merely a slight indisposition. This morning, while sitting in a chair in his bed room, he suddenly slumped down and died shortly after. Heart failure is believed to have been the cause of his death. During his many years residence in Latrobe, Mr. Brindle had gained for himself many friends. He was a director of the Peoples Bank, of this place, and was an elder in the Reformed church, having been a member of this denomination practically throughout his life-time. A son of the late Jacob and Margaret Brindle, of Unity township, he was reared on a farm near Baggaley and he was devoted to agriculture until he came to Latrobe to take up the pursuit of a business career. He first conducted a store, on Depot St., with A. S. Kepple as a partner, and later the business was moved to the brindle Bldg. on Ligonier street. While the store was still situated on this street Mr. Brindle sold out his entire interest to his partner. His life, from that time on, however, was not one of retirement, for he made daily trips to the farm in Unity township, in order to superintend its work, while he also was active in other interests. Mr. Brindle was married to Miss Rachel Lohr, of Jenners, Somerset county, 52 years ago. His widow and two children, Mrs. Alice Hartsell and Barry Brindle, both of Latrobe, survive him. In addition to his immediate family he is also survived by the following grandchildren: Lewis and Helen Hartzell and Margaret, Lewis, Marion and Harry Brindle, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at the late residence at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Raezer. Interment will follow in the Unity Cemetery.
