L. Brindle, Active VFW Leader, Dies Ralph L. Brindle, 70, 1106 Lakeview Drive, died Wednesday at his home at 3:40 p.m. Born in Unity Township, January 23, 1891, he was the son of the late Jacob W. and Belle Kaiser Brindle. He was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, Loyalhanna Lodge No. 275 F. and A. M.; Coudersport Consistory, Royal Arch Chapter 309, Latrobe, Knight Templar No. 18, Greensburg, Greensburg Caravan No. 8, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Westmoreland Forest No. 77, Latrobe Lamas Club, Syria Temple Shrine and Military Order Cooties. He was also a 40-year member of the Thomas B. Anderson Post 515 American Legion. the 40 and 8, a past commander of the Ft. Ligonier Veteran's of Foreign Wars 734, past commander of the VFW County Council, past commander of the VFW district and has held various VFW national and state appointments. He was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Irene Heffelfinger Brindle and the following children: Edward E., Miami, Fla.; Mrs. Felix (Florence) Padule; Mrs. John (Marie) Lattanzio and Russell, all of Latrobe; five grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. George Gallagher. Friends will be received at the Joseph R. Hunter Funeral Home daily from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 pm until Saturday at 1 p.m. when the body will be removed to Unity Chapel where services will be held at 2:30 p m in charge of his pastor, the Rev. Robert R. Vogelsang. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery. BRINDLE, RALPH L., of 1105 Lakeview Drive, Latrobe, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 1961 at 3:40 p.m. at his late home. He was 70 years of age. Friends will be received at the Joseph R. Hunter Funeral Home daily from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. until Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at which time he will be removed to the Unity Chapel, Unity Cemetery, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in charge of his pastor, Rev. Brindle, a veteran of World War I were held at the graveside in Unity Cemetery Saturday afternoon. He was a Past Commander of the Fort Ligonier Post 734, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 40-year member of the Thomas B. Anderson Post 515, American Legion. Serving as pallbearers were the following members of the Fort Ligonier Post 734. V. F. W.: Elmer D. Anderson, Clarence Pershing, David Evans, Sedric Roberts, Richard Riggs and John Richards, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers were John Richards, Sr., John Ament, George Kells, Edward Blair, Charles Luttner, George Ferguson, William Squibb and Ernest Grimm, also of Post 734, V.F.W. Following the religious burial services the American Legion Military ritual was conducted by Elmer D. Anderson, County Council Commander. Veterans of Foreign Wars and S. Raymond Larimer, chaplain of Post 515, American Legion. The flags of Post 515, American Legion and Post 3414. Veterans of Foreign Wars were used and composing the Color Guard and Escort were the following with Col. James S. Gallagher in command: Edward Gordon, Joseph Neiman, George Aukerman, Harry Shirey. John Wallbaum, Charles Koutsky, Edward Fox, Ernest Visconti, Frank Sessi, Joseph Boerio, Edward Strange, Earl Pickett, Benj. E. Keim and Darwin Hunter of Thomas B. Anderson Post 515, Americas Legion: and Dean Peters, Francis O’Donnell, Joseph Hall, James Sarnese, Harry Hummer, Clyde Eddins of Paul Lizza Post 3414, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Arley A. Gontz of the Derry V. F. W. Post 404. The flag was folded by Campbell Bates of Post 3414, V. F. W. and Thomas Baldridge of Post 515, American Legion and presented by the chaplain S. R. Larimer.
