(LaVella) Buncie, 71, of Herminie, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011. She was born Aug. 9, 1939, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Anthony and Frances (Cividini) LaVella, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Buncie Sr., whom she married on Valentine's Day in 1970, so that they could be "sweethearts forever." Jan was a proud graduate of Sewickley High School, class of 1957, and enjoyed organizing most of their subsequent class reunions. Jan also graduated from the Dale Carnegie Course and held several civic and community positions around Greensburg. Jan took pride in her Croatian and Italian heritage and was a social member of the Yukon Croatian Club. She was also passionate about music, specifically polkas. Jan was an active participant with the Band Parents Association at Greensburg Salem High School during the time her husband was the band director. She also served the Football Moms Association at Hempfield High School while her son played football. Jan worked at Westmoreland Mall at the Information Center. Jan and Joe retired to the Heron's Glen community in North Fort Myers, Fla., where she was anything but "retired." She busied herself by contributing to their local newspaper, organized weekly bingo and yearly Italian Day celebrations, and was an active member of First Assembly of God Church, Fort Myers. Upon her return to Pennsylvania, she became a member of the Word of Life Ministries, Greensburg. This devoted mother is survived by her children, Joseph M. "Mike" Buncie Jr., of Richmond, Va., Rebecca Cugliari, of Neshanic Station, N.J., Vikki Gilmore, of Moon Township, and Cassandra Buncie, of Pittsburgh; her grandchildren, who lovingly refer to her as "Nonnie," Eric Buncie, Joey and Alissa Cugliari, and Amanda and Sarah Gilmore; siblings, twin sister, Joanie, of Herminie, Robert LaVella, of Irwin, and Antoinette Smith, of Irwin; also many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Rihn (Greensburg) and the CCU staff of Westmoreland Hospital for taking care of Jan as if she were a member of their family.
