He had been in failing health for some time and his death was not unexpected. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Kent, of Detroit, Michigan, and by five children: Mrs. G. W. Greer, of Chicago; Richard L. Burgoon, of McKeesport, Miss Mary, of Latrobe, the Reverend Father Joseph, of MacDonald, and Miss Tessie, of Latrobe. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at nine o'clock in the Holy Family church. Solemn high mass will be said, after which the remains will be taken to St. Mary's cemetery for interment. Silas Burgoon was born in the year 1827, in Derry township, being the son of Jacob and Martha Burgoon. He spent his early life at the home of his parents and learned the trade of a carpenter, becoming one of the most skilled mechanics in the county. In the year 1862 he joined the company which the late Dr. H. G. Donnelly recruited in this place within four days. The company was known as company G, 135 P. V. and Mr. Burgoon served his country for 10 months. In 1864 he removed to Latrobe. He was married to Rachel McCullough, by whom he had eight children, five of whom survive him. The deceased was one of the carpenters employed on the erection of the mills of the Peters Paper company in the First ward and was the first carpenter to be employed on the construction of the Latrobe Steel works. He was known throughout the entire county for his skill at his chosen trade.
