Died January 3d, 1864, Hon. Benjamin Byerly… Hon. Benjamin Byerly was born on the
15th day of May, A. D. 1791, and died on the 3d day of January, 1864; he was in his
seventy-third year therefore, and had lived through nearly the whole period of our
national existence… When just twenty-one, he entered the service of the United
States as Second Lieutenant in the 19th Regiment of Infantry, and served to the
close of the war of 1812… He was three times elected to the State Legislature, first
in 1828 and last in 1854...
