In failing health, for several months, Mrs. Charles E. Ely, 86, a prominent
resident of Jeannette, died in her home at 105 North Second St. at 7:30 a.m.
Thursday. Mrs. Ely had been active in club work, the affairs of her church and
as a member of the Union Aid Association for more than 50 years. She and other
prominent club women of the county aided in the observance of the golden
anniversary of the Westmoreland County Federation of Women's Clubs several years
ago. Mrs. Ely modeled a gown of an early period. She was a prominent member of
the Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette; a charter member of the Woman's Club of
Jeannette; a life member of the Union Aid Society and a member of the L.C.B.A.,
the Rosary Society and the Maccabees. Mrs. Ely was born in Covington Nov. 19,
1867, a daughter of the late Michael and Ellen Murray Faul, and moved to
Jeannette in 1892. Her husband died in 1923. Surviving are the following sons
and daughters: Mrs. James Hughes, Jeannette; Stewart, at home; Capt. Harold,
Hendersonville, N. C., and Mrs. John Alms, Charleston, W. Va. Also surviving are
six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. L. N. Breen,
Sharon, and two brothers, William Faul, Salem, O., and James Faul, Arnold.
Friends will be received at the family residence. Requiem mass will be
celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Church, followed by interment in
the church cemetery.
