Mr. Foster was a life long resident of Derry. A son of the late William and Martha Thomas Foster, he was born there June 23, 1872. He entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad as a brakeman February 5, 1892. In 1900 he was promoted to flagman and in 1906 was made a freight conductor at which position he worked until Feb. 10, 1941, when he retired after 49 years of service. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and the Knights of Malta. He was a member of the Derry Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the council of the congregation for several years. His wife, Mrs. Minnie Baer Foster died May 30, 1942, and a son, Lewis, died August 28, 1941. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Forsha, of Derry; a son, George Foster, of Derry; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and the following sisters: Mrs. William Lowman and Mrs. John Baker, Derry; Mrs. James Alms, of Wilkinsburg; and Mrs. Alice Hoyle, Marianna. At 1 pm Saturday, the body will lie in state at the Evangelical Lutheran Church until time for funeral services at 2:30. The Rev. George D. Wolfe will officiate. Interment will be in Coles Cemetery.
