William "Beany" K. Gessler, 66, of 416 Fairmont St., Latrobe, died Thursday,
March 26, 1987, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Sept. 15, 1920, in
Latrobe, a son of the late William S. and Bess E. Shaffer Gessler. Prior to his
retirement, he was employed by Latrobe Steel Co. He was the former owner of
Beany's Bar, Ligonier Street, Latrobe. A World War II veteran, having served
with the U.S. Army, he was a member of Holy Family Church of Latrobe, American
Legion Post 515, the Amvets of Bradenville, the Fron-tier Club of Latrobe and
the Cooperstown Vets' and Sportsmen's Club and a lifetime member of the Latrobe
Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Marie Noel Gessler; one
son, David L. of Latrobe; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Donna) Scalise of
Greensburg, Mrs. Kevin (Joyce) Cogan of Ligonier and Mrs. Mark (Joanne) Friel of
Derry, and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9
p.m. Saturday and Sunday in John J. Lopatich Funeral Home, 601 Weldon St.,
Latrobe. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in Holy
Family Church, Latrobe. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Unity
Township. Memorials may be made to the Cardiac Care Unit of Latrobe Area
Hospital. Members of Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department will meet at 1 p.m.
Sunday in the funeral home to pay their respects. Members of Latrobe Volunteer
