Vernon Goodman Killed In Germany Pfc. Vernon Goodman. aged 25 years, was killed in action in Germany, according to the War Department telegram received by his wife, Mrs. Erma Harr Goodman, of east of Youngstown, along the old Lincoln Highway. News that he had been killed was published yesterday and further details were learned today. The telegram received yesterday afternoon stated that the holder of the Purple Heart and the Infantryman's Combat Medal, had been killed on April 19, just one year lacking one week after his entrance into the armed forces on April 26 of last year. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Goodman, of near Correll's store, Pfc. Goodman was a baker for the Gartmann Baking Co. before entering service. He arrived in England on Dec. 1, 1944, from where be went to France, Belgium, Luxembourg and finally Germany where be was attached to the 76th Division of Patton's Third Army. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two daughters, Judith, aged 4 years, and Linda, aged 3 years: two brothers: Fred E. Goodman and Harry Goodman, both of Latrobe RD 1: and two sisters, the Misses Cecelia and Wilma Goodman, both at home and employed at the G. C. Murphy Co. store in Latrobe.
