She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her faith in Jesus Christ was of greatest importance to her; this was evident in her kind and selfless spirit. Lois was born April 23, 1918, in Latrobe, daughter of the late George Henry and Elizabeth (Musick) Karns. She grew up on the family farm located about one mile west of Youngstown and just north of the Old Lincoln Highway. She attended Latrobe High School and graduated from Seton Hill College with a degree in dietetics in 1946. She was the head of dietary services at several hospitals, including Torrance State Hospital near Blairsville, Latrobe Hospital, Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, and Indiana Regional Medical Center, and was the director of food services at Deny Area High School for several years. Lois married George Goodman in 1947; they lived in Youngstown for 61 years in a Sears Mail Order House built by her father. They were members of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School; one of her students was Arnold Palmer. She loved refinishing antique furniture, cooking elaborate meals for her family, and caring for her dogs and cats. She also enjoyed family camping trips in Pennsylvania, New England and Texas. Lois and George moved to Anchorage in 2008. She enjoyed taking long road trips with family around the state, but her favorite times were spent simply being with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, George, exactly one year earlier on Dec. 29, 2015. She is survived by her sons, Dr. David (Barbara) Goodman of Anchorage and Mark (Stephanie) Goodman of Morristown, Vermont; granddaughters, Erin (Aaron) Gibson of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Andrea Goodman of Anchorage, and great-grandchildren, Audrey, Grady, Gavin, Rachel, Denali and Lincoln. Her family and friends will miss her greatly. We miss her smile and the gleam in her eyes. A Celebration of Life for both Lois and George will occur on July 17, 2017, at St. James Lutheran Church, Youngstown. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Trauger.
