He was born in Kingston, Pa., Nov. 1, 1919, a son of the late Alex and Blanche Hawanchak. A member of St. John the Evangelist Church, he was a retired employee of Vulcan Mold with 42 years of service, retiring in January 1982. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with U. S. Army, and a member of Cooperstown Vets, American Legion Post 515, Derry Ukrainian Society, Frontier Club, F O Eagles 01188 and American Greek Catholic Beneficial Society. Surviving are his wife, Ann M. Slabodnick Hawanchak; two sons, Michael of Latrobe and Gregory of Derry; one daughter, Mrs. John (Cheryl) Hamill of Derry; five sisters, Mrs. George (Mary) Vid and Mrs. John (Helen) Markosky, both of Latrobe, Mrs. Rocco (Josephine) Cianciotto of Greensburg, Mrs. Ronald (Rosanne) Cox of Latrobe RD 2 and Julia of Pittsburgh, and three grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in John J. Lopatich Funeral Home, Latrobe. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery. Rosary- Altar Society will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. F O Eagles 01188 will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
