At his home in Latrobe on Saturday, February 3, Hurlbert Smith Herrington died of pneumonia, aged 35 years. He was a son of H. Herrington, of Osborne station, and a grandson of S. H. Smith, who practically reared him, and was well known in Altoona. He had been ill less than a week. In referring to his death, the Latrobe Advance says: "Hurlbert Smith Herrington was a young man of bright prospects. He was a skilled machinist and had worked all over the country in the years past. He went into business here for a while, but sold out and took a place at the steel works, where he worked his way to a position of responsibility in the machine shop. Personally he was genial and pleasant, an interesting talker and a true and loyal friend. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Masons and the Heptasophs, in which latter order he carried a $2,000 insurance policy. Morning Tribune, Thursday, February 15, 1900
