Hess, a well-known engineer on the Pittsburg division of the Pennsylvania railroad, died suddenly of heart failure while at the throttle of his engine at Southwest junction, near Greensburg, Tuesday morning. Mr. Hess's home was in Derry, and he had charge of the engine that hauled coke trains over the Southwest branch of the Pennsylvania railroad to Derry. He left his home at an early hour yesterday morning, and his locomotive was drawing a load of empties when he fell dead. The deceased was aged 58 years. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, February 9, 1899
