We encourage links to the state and county table of contents. ____________________________________________________________ Unknown Newspaper Died Jan 4, 1927 Well Known Contractor is Called Beyond "Ed" Hoey Succumbs Following Long Illness at his Home here Builder in City for Half Century David Edgar Hoey, 72 years old for nearly half a century a builder of homes and business structures in McKeeport, interested in banking and a church worker, died last night at his home, 1913 Baldwin Avenue, following and extended illness. Mr. Hoey was known to his legion of friends as "Ed", and were his proper name to be mentioned without his business being specified, few would realize who was meant. Mr. Hoey made a brave fight for life, but each rally was succeeded by greater weakness, until at 10 o'clock last night the Death Angel waved a magic wand and the final summons took from McKeesport one of its most beloved citizens. Though prepared for the worst news, owing to lengthy illness, relatives and friends were shocked over the intelligence that a true and faithful guardian and friend had passed away. David Edgar Hoey was born at Newlinsburg, near Murraysville, Pa on June 5, 1854. He was married to Emma R. A. Porter of that vicinity on Feb 19, 1880, and at once came to McKeesport to reside. He entered the general contracting business and carried it on successfully for nearly half a century. He had worked a short time in the National tube works and first went into the contracting business with Charles Richpeter. Later he entered into partnership with John Knapp and some years later took over Mr. Knapp's interests and continuing as a building contractor until January 1920, when he retired from activity in building to devote all of his time to other interests. Mr. Hoey was a director in the Union National bank of this city, a charter member of the Central Presbyterian church and member of the church session. He also was a member of Youghiogheny lodge of F & A.M.; of Gorga lodge of Perfection and of the Protected Home Circle. Mr. Hoey was twice married. His first wife died June 13, 1909, and he married Anneta E. Bevington, of McKeesport on Oct 14, 1913. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. A.B. Holmes of Park Street and Mrs. E.C. Pryor of Wilkinsburg; two brothers, J.T. Hoey of Oakland, Calif and J.L. Hoey of Murraysville; also five grandchildren. Funeral services are to be conducted at his late residence in Baldwin avenue tomorrow night at 8 o'clock. The Rev. LeRoy Lawther, of the Central Presbyterian church, and the Rev.Kinley McMillan, former pastor of that church, will officiate. Intgerment will be made Friday and will be private. NOTE: David Edgar Hoey was the son of Samuel and Susannah Dewalt Hoey.
